In order to connect your Palm handheld device to your desktop/server machine and use it to surf the web, retrieve email, telnet to other networked machines, or any other raw use of the Internet with your Palm, a few things have to be verified and possibly changed on the desktop machine, as well as a few configuration changes on the Palm device itself.
On the Palm, we will set up a simple PPP connection to your desktop using the built-in TCP stack on the Palm ( NetLib ).
WARNING: This document assumes that you can already synchronize your Palm device with your Linux or unix desktop without problems. If you cannot yet sync your device to your Linux or Unix desktop (using tools such as pilot-link or JPilot ), you should make sure that you configure that portion of the connectiviy first before embarking on connecting that device to the internet. Some of the diagnostics contained in this document should help you determine if there's a problem with your Palm or with your desktop/server machine.
